01

What does low poly mean?

Low poly describes a mesh built with a relatively small number of polygons. There is no universal face-count threshold: a background prop, a vehicle and a character have different requirements. Compare assets within the same scene and platform budget. A low poly aesthetic also uses deliberate silhouettes, broad color areas and simplified detail.

02

Low poly and stylized are different decisions

Low poly is a geometry constraint; stylized describes the visual direction. A simplified mesh can use realistic textures, while a stylized sculpt can contain many polygons. Choose your shape language and palette first, then decide how much geometry the asset needs.

03

From image to a usable game prop

Choose a clear reference with an unobstructed silhouette. Generate a draft, inspect every side, and correct geometry that the image could not describe. Check scale, pivot, triangle count and materials before importing into your engine. The tool uses OpenAI to compose low-poly primitive geometry from image references. This is a stylized approximation rather than textured reconstruction.

04

Plan a consistent asset pack

Write a small style sheet: proportions, palette, edge sharpness, texture treatment and intended camera distance. Test one tree, one crate and one rock together before producing a complete pack. Consistency often matters more than detail on a single object.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Are low poly models always faster?

Fewer triangles can help, but materials, draw calls, texture memory, lighting and transparency also affect performance. Profile the complete scene.

Does low poly mean untextured?

No. Low poly models may use flat colors, painted textures or PBR materials. Choose the treatment that fits your style and runtime budget.
